The Guides

Fran Berrocal

Fran was born and raised in Coyhaique, Chile and as far as we know is the only female fly fishing guide in all of Chile and maybe in all of Patagonia. Her father operates a rafting company in Coyhaique and Fran grew up on the river and began developing her exceptional rowing skills from a very young age. Seeing there were no women fishing guides working in this region, Fran saw an opportunity and decided to dive into the sport 6 or 7 years ago and due to her solid river skills, she quickly established herself as one of the areas most sought after young fly fishing guides. She is now sponsored by the Patagonia company among others brands and is involved in several conservation projects in Patagonia. Being exceptionally outgoing and possessing a natural “get-er-done” attitude, Fran is a fun and highly capable guide to spend your day with.

Doug Freemann

Doug was born and raised in the Philadelphia area, and picked up fly fishing at a young age. Cutting his teeth on Pennsylvania’s technical spring creeks, he fell in love with the sport. He was then introduced to the world of competitive fly-fishing and spent five years on the U.S. Youth Fly Fishing Team and was fortunate to fish in multiple competitions around the world, eventually culminating his tenure as team captain. This experience afforded him the chance to learn from some of the nation’s leading fly anglers. During his college years Doug guided on Wyoming’s North Platte River as well as Colorado’s Front Range  and now spends his summers guiding in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River. When guiding Doug patiently adapts to the experience level of each client in an easy going and relaxed manner. Striving to help clients find success at any level from exploring the nuts and bolts of angling technique, to refining advanced skills.  Doug is one of the most solid all-around guides we have ever had with a deep passion for fly fishing and is well equipped to show you a fantastic day on the water!
